The Unspoken Bond
written by: Aswini A
She heard his name before she saw him.
He wandered quietly in her thoughts.
She pondered the silent companion,
A stranger familiar to her mind.
The mysteriously familiar soul drew her near,
there he stood, like an ancient star
known to her memory, that ethereal smile,
like sunshine in the misty sky.
Her heart drifted in clouds; the noise faded.
Everything stood still in that ripple.
His hands upon the desk, lost in talk,
a persistent look stirred the air.
He turned around, caught her eyes,
startled, she drifted her gaze, a little shy.
A smile of wonder graced his lips.
Their eyes met,
hearts exchanged innocent smiles.
Not a word – just glances,
stories from past lives unravel.
A fragile, unknown bond blooms,
like tremors of dew drops in their souls.
Like a wave yearning to merge with sea,
he stood patiently, waiting –
before the school gates had opened,
just to greet her; her eyes melted with joy.
Their muted tone knew every note, a melody within;
their eyes knew every scene, a shared glimpse in mind;
their minds had walls,
but their affection still glimmered.
Little they spoke, but their joy sang to the sky.
Moments held more weight than words.
Affectionate feathers, softer than petals,
unfurled from hidden cocoons of their hearts,
found wings to fly.
From no words to all words —
each day, a tender chatter,
like nestled birds in the hush.
They flocked with their peers,
but moved through each other’s hearts.
Stray glances, fleeting smiles from their orbit
stirred a gentle ruffle.
True to their nature, they stood unshaken,
amid the noise — happy and content.
The rhythm of the bell,
white glimmers on the blackboard,
warm earthy benches—
all were nearing their end.
The echoes of laughter in the corridor,
each corner held a thousand stories.
The symphony of their hearts,
shimmered on their faces,
the warmth of their presence,
the echoes of their souls,
Wove a billion stories.
They glided on different paths,
a question haunting to this day —
they parted, not knowing why.
The wave that yearned for the sea, turned away
A silent ache remained.
Tranquil agony engulfed the two.
No fights, no promises, nothing.
Their hearts understood — somehow,
that was enough.
They held deepest respect,
heartfelt tenderness,
wishing the other a beautiful life.
Hearts divided by fate,
tethered by truth.
The soul knows no divide.
And sometimes,
perhaps they smile in their hearts —
grateful for a love that asked for nothing.
Heaven awaits their arrival,
to cherish those memories.
Perhaps, they’ll meet in another life,
to live those moments again.
