The Vineyard

The Vineyard

written by: Angela Huskisson

A single raisin rests.
Lost in summer heat.
While Enzo unravels his life
And all he has known on this Tuscan hillside.
His lifeblood seeping through ebb and flow.

The raisin, once round and sweet like his own beloved Bella
Is disappearing fast within shifting seasons.
Fifty years passing in a finger snap
Where the warmth has left the land and cooler winds unfold.

He calls for his youth, his vigour, his life returned
Next time he will be better, bigger, stronger.
Once upon another time, in a different place
Which feels like this, but isn’t.

He makes peace with his god
As the shriveled fruit prepares its fall.
The last of the summer wine.
