The Wing Beyond the Hour
written by: Sanjeev Kumar Pati
Above,
the Sky-Seer drinks
from the cup of stars,
its wings inscribing
brief scriptures of fire
upon the dark.
Within the kiwi
a mountain kneels in shadow,
and the sea remembers its grief.
The eagle—
always one dawn ahead—
wears the high air
like a borrowed halo,
making a throne
of distance.
Yet the kiwi cannot turn away.
For pity, too, has feathers:
May the eagle not be lost
in the shining desert
of its own vision.
May it return, again and again,
to the sacred pulse of the hour,
to the small astonishment
of simply being.
And the kiwi’s heart grows still
whenever it sees
that solitary wing
already passing
through tomorrow’s sky.
