This Barn of Barns
written by: John Grey
Inside the barn, some stalls remain
but there’s no sign of horses and chickens.
It’s just a junkyard these days,
storage space for tins of paint
and thick hard brushes,
a tire, a carburetor, some rusty hubcaps,
and the remains of a jeep.
Only a few wisps of straw testify
to the efficacy of the building’s past,
when the surrounding acres were
a working farm, and not prime real estate
for a drab development of look-a-like houses.
These days, it’s an outlier but hardly an outcast.
Yes, it creaks, even shakes, in brisk north-westerlies.
But the winds of change are no bother.
