Truth Masks

In the golden globe lamplight
Fiction meets reality
Black against white
The self-defining girls dress in
Vegan leather as Cruella.

Red cherry gummies
Strip my teeth ivory
Peppermint for eyes, I stare
The boys with broken gaits
Dress as Data.

No one recognizes them
Under the layers of make up
Pale-faced android who, golden eyed,
Traversed the galaxy
Painting humanity’s darkest truths in color
Though, tin man, he claimed himself heartless.

I dressed as myself
I turned my insides outwards
For a day
I spoke the truth.
