Two Questions

written by: Connie Johnson

a handful of churches
a handful of boarded up build-
ings / sounds of Nina Simone
             wafting from your
Uncle Earl’s stereo…

                               we soar
                      we may crash
but here’s a bold reflection:

         “there’s no need
to give in to a pain
 predilection…”

we’re blossoming
& it’s a new day!
    you’re not just
       life’s mere
     passer-
 by.

      are you eager
to fly in this brand
new world?

(I know it’s tough
in all likelihood
                  but…)

are you
      finally
    feeling
 good?
