Weep Not Mother
written by: Ritalord S. Amedor
Now, along the highway
And across the street
By the dump
And over the drains
Once, I knew the infant you
And now, my dreams
And hopes, for you
Can only be a wish
And a miracle
Because Substance lured you
Into her bosom
Fingers point
To the tears in your garments
And your peeping toes
Some pinch their noses
Others shake their heads
Forgetting
All men are brothers
You have no mind of your own
Substance has stolen it
If I could turn back the clock
To the moment peers
From that society
Introduced you
To their intoxicating drugs
I would pay to substance
What it takes
To leave you be
While I wait for a miracle
And a cure
I place upon myself
The burden to broadcast
Who Substance really is
The thief
That sings weary souls to death
She first extends her claws
In the white
gloves of comfort
With smooth words
From the mouth
that feeds on futures,
The arsonist
Of homes, names, and memories.
I will speak
of what she whispers
to her victims
Before she devours them
Or buries them slowly.
And hope that
Before another innocent soul
Mistakes poison for peace,
My voice arrives first
Before her ruin does
