Why Me?

Why Me?

written by: Franci Eugenia Hoffman

Perhaps overlooked
still it was hurtful

together
we weathered many storms
the old apple tree, she
swayed to and fro

together
we huddled, we clung
her branches flailing

together
our friendship grew strong
came time for apple picking
we donned our best display.

together
we bid each other goodbye
one by one my friends were chosen,
and there I was all alone. Why?
Was I not pretty enough or
was it something sinister?

Is it the apple does not
fall far from the tree, or,
was it meant to be?
