With Awe In Their Eyes

With Awe In Their Eyes

Little children all over the world
lay nestled in their warm beds,
dreaming of an early morning awakening.
Santa would be here soon!
Gifts of milk and cookies,
a surprise for old St. Nick,
adorn the table while stockings dangle,
waiting to be filled upon his arrival.
They’d heard of sugarplums
in the traditional songs
but what danced in their heads
was catching the jolly red fellow
and all the reindeer delivering
the presents they’d earned
by not being naughty.
Of course, they were nice!
Plus, they left milk and cookies for Santa!
As the sun streams began
to creep into the windows
around the world,
children everywhere rose
from their beds,
ambled quickly to the tree
to discover presents underneath.
The light shone brightly
on their widened eyes.
Open-mouthed, they could
hardly believe what they saw.
The plate, empty of cookies,
held a note giving thanks.
Santa had indeed been there!!
