Worlds Apart

Worlds Apart

I. ME

It’s cold
from the rain
The dark: an hour unknown
The blanket is warm
But not from you
And the sheets,
Still carry your scent
Memories, my sole solace
This stillness
Deafeningly loud
And how I wonder where you are

Tides,
All I hear
The sound of waves
Constant in battle with the shore
Loud as war
Atomic chaos
Like the plains in my mind

II. YOU

It’s hot
from the scorching sun
The light: blinding bright
The warmth from the crowd
But not from you
And in a throng
Where I can’t be alone
I am a loner
For with you is where I belong
This din sings a deafening song
And how I wonder where you are

Tides,
Their roars remain
The sound of waves
Constant in battle with the shore
Loud as war
Atomic chaos
Like the plains in my mind

III. US

Maybe you are dreaming the same dream too.
Under a sky together,
We might never see
A different world, the same blue hue,
Yet still you are home to me.

I reach through miles of missing words,
of messages I never sent,
To tell you what you always are
A beginning, not an end.
