You Are My Path

So often I stand
and simply watch you
in the silence of life’s temples,
as you bless all that lies before me
and clear the paths I walk
the paths that once led nowhere
while your prayers
cast their light upon my face.
And when I think you are far away,
hidden in chambers beyond my reach,
I still feel your gaze
among a crowd
of millions.
So often I stop,
wondering at the end of which road
you are waiting for me.
And always, I find myself returning
years and years into the past,
once more, and then again,
thanking God
for your presence.
Because you are my destiny.
And you will be there
at the end of every road I take,
gathering every smile,
every tear,
every whispered prayer.
So often I watch you
lost in thought,
as though somewhere deep inside
you quietly hold
all the burdens of your life.
So often I stand
and wait for your smile,
for your laughter to ring out
clear, warm, and free
just so I can know
that you are happy.
