You Knew

the dark gray from above has cleared
the turmoil and unrest
looming down
hiding the light
no more than a distant memory
you never doubted yourself about
when it would end
what seemed to last forever
you knew deep inside
the rain couldn’t last for much longer
but it did
the streets flooded
and the flowers drowned
birds couldn’t take to the sky
while the earth turned to mud
yet you were certain
the nourishing star would eventually break through
you didn’t second guess it
or chance it
you knew.
