You’re My Angel

You’re My Angel

written by: Lawrence Langman

Dedicated to my wife, Janice Langman

I’ve sat amongst the shadows
sulking in my beer.
Thinking about all I’ve lost
beneath these tears of fear.
I’m just a mortal man I sit
of flesh and bone derived.
The stars above in heaven
have fated me survived.
Each morning breath I take
reminds me of my last.
I greet the day with pains
I’m doomed to not surpass.
Every day a debt amassed
and charged upon my love.
My cost I’d pay forever yet
like a candle I fade hereof.
Now that taper slowly fades
as my light begins to wane.
My heart will always cherish
you carrying my last name.
As these days dwindle down
and the sun finds the waves.
I look deeply into your eyes
for you I’ll always crave.
That tender voice you carry
and a heart as strong as steel.
It’s not my bravery that carried me
your love controlled my will.
So let’s live these borrowed days
like a child at the five and dime.
Although a prisoner of this disease
I shall fight till my last rhyme.
A warrior till the end I’ll never heed
but when that day draws near.
Raise your head above the clouds
your voice I shall always hear.
