Star Light, Star Loss

Star Light, Star Loss

The angel closes her eyes,
Rests her chin on her fist.
As tears gather and
Run down her hand.
Before her stands Raphael
And even through her teared and troubled vision
She can see he is beautiful.

The pain he feels from parting
Is already fading.
His smile, his laugh
Shatters stars from the angel’s hair.
Alone he stands and strong,
Green eyes filaments in electric rays,
Hair black crinkles in the folds of time.

His touch dries the angel’s tears.
When he lifts his hand before him
Stars shine through his fingers.
The night sky holds him safe as
He shimmers across the universe
Swirling into a vortex of starlight
Life and earth forgotten

Bereft of her unborn child
His mother sways in sadness.
Sparkling jewels, gold and silver threads
Lie like shattered hopes about her feet.
Silhouetted she stands
Against a night of fading stars.
Nothing of him remains to keep her warm.
