I Have Been Long Alone
written by: Anna Bivens
birds shall weave a nest
from strands of my hair
twigs bent
feathers found
snatches of cloth
I have loved the garden long
my skin is blushing
birds weave a nest
from strands of my hair
their little ones
sing of food
and trembling flight
I’ve borne the breeze too long
my thoughts are tangled
birds once wove a nest
from strands of my hair
now they are absent
their earnest home
is full of snow
they have been long away
I shall weave a nest of my own
