A Likely Story

The Robin was sure that he wanted to sing out a story
He sat on a branch and then hopped on the sill of the window
A white curtain fluttered on hearing his meaningful trilling
Two bright red geraniums nodded their bright heads at each other
Blooming amid leaves in the flowerpot kept in the sunshine
The kettle began to whistle and let off some steam
A woman alone then sat down and cut herself some bread
And slowly made tea as she also buttered a bread slice
The Robin went on with his song and she listened with care
A story was told and a story was also imagined
When both were at peace the Robin flew off to the garden
He stopped just to pick up a worm and then disappeared
The morning shone new on the vinegar-wiped window panes
And everything seemed freshly minted after the night rain.
