Anatomy of Sadness

Anatomy of Sadness

written by: Godfrey Holy

it’s a dead bat in a damp cave below, a mother at target unable to fart. a river without an estuary, a pie that burned while you dyed your hair. a busy road full of potholes, a flea without a bag, a nation full of emotions

sadness is a flower with too much sunlight, it’s fat that won’t tuck right, relatives that won’t leave, it’s a packed memory on your way to confession, a friend that died without informing you. it’s a bee that can’t keep his honey, a candy wrapper on a bench, a song left in a flute, a feather on a fish

it’s a lease you can’t afford to break, a leash too short. a train delayed, its a toilet that flushes too loud, a day at walmart without drama, a hoof detached, a dog that’s been waging his tail for too long. a belch that didn’t mulch the lawn, a noise in your nose

sadness is a bird with many worms and no eggs, a window with multiple views, prime beef in the freezer. a river flowing away from you, shoes with darkness inside. sadness is a homeless door

it’s happiness that hasn’t happened yet, it’s every breath you give so you can suffocate in peace. it’s your reflection from every mirror, sadness is you being happy when everything else around you is dying of sadness
