Emilia, her husband and their two dogs live in the shadow of Pikes Peak in the mountains of Colorado sharing the land with bears, deer, bobcats and moose. She came to America at the age of eight when her father was recruited due to a shortage of doctors in rural Illinois. Her writing is influenced by the immigrant experience and the straddling of multiple cultures including her father’s Colombian heritage and her husband’s British upbringing. She earned a Bachelors degree in Media Communications and holds a Masters in English Rhetoric and Composition. After 33 years working in higher education she retired as an Associate Vice President of Student Life from Metropolitan State University of Denver. Emilia enjoys spending time with family, traveling, hiking, reading and advocating for those marginalized by society. She volunteers at her church by helping to feed homeless individuals and she and her husband foster abandoned Scottish terriers.
