Beneath The Raft

Beneath The Raft

written by: Julian Thumm

Great men don’t make history.
Willing slaves, they ride
the seething tides
lashed to rafts
afloat on bloated bodies
& craft the illusion
Of walking on water
barkers
hawkers
hustlers
& sharks
riling the desperate scorn
of the masses, their prey
the unborn & unwanted
ground rough to chum
to inflame the hunger
of opportunistic predators

Great men feed
on the blood that drips
from the mouths of geeks
whose appetites they’ve
cruelly & cunningly nurtured

The will of the world-spirit,
a lunatic death drive
borne on the circular currents
of history
as material weights
noosed to necks
drag us down
where the deepest
waters run still
