Best Seller

When the Angel of Death knocked on my door, I let him in.

“Hey buddy, you’re gonna win the contest.”

Death’s unblinking, saffron eyes followed me.

In a guttural tone, he spoke. “Still want to be a famous author?”

A primal warning skittered up my spine. “Yes.”

Death placed the novel into my hands. I turned the pages of my best seller, absorbing the words I’d never written.

The weight of the pen distorted my signature, Endeavour Black.

With the deal struck, I knew when the last book was sold, he would collect.

I needed to find a new publisher.
