Birds and Cats

albatrosses
flap vigorously
to soar in peace
for days on end
balance
sleeping
with a wide smile
the street cat
in front of
kebab shop
ducks
see-sawing across
the country road
i do love…
this traffic jam
Tiffany blue
did robins
ever sell
the color
of their eggs?
she calls her cats
Button
and Marble
it’s always
about eyes
falling leaves
cat tries to
grab a ginkgo fan
mid-air…
in vain

copper colored
cat’s eyes
and the yarn ball
darting towards
her voice
rescued blind cat
turquoise eggs…
of grey catbird
sweet surprise

Pegah Rahmati Nezhad is a medical doctor, scientist, artist, and poet from Tehran, Iran. She loves poetry and lyrical prose, and believes in the power of words. More than hundred of her poems have been published on numerous international platforms and Journals such as Presence, Wales Haiku, Shadow Pond, O2 Haiku, Fresh Out, Hedgerow, and Asahi Shimbun, with many others forthcoming.
