Cognition

written by: Strahinja Lukićev

I am destroyed to the core.
Destroyed by my own
hungry beasts,
by someone else’s bloodthirsty
demons and desires,
by disembodied armies
from some other Hell.

Like an infernal whip that lashes tirelessly,
tearing the shadow piece by piece,
which once represented the soul and
the body of this being.
I’m falling apart…
Like a faceless monument of the earth,
when the bloody tooth of time
meanly reminds me of the inevitable end.

I’m rotting.
In this personal hell, black images
and miserable attempts,
In this vortex of wall projections of the past
that destroys,
In these circles of depressed lucidity,
In this land waiting for me to rise
with crossed arms.

I tear my flesh in solitude…
I dig through the blood-soaked mud with my teeth.
The taste is like licking metal.
It smells like death on the four walls,
the four monsters of this Armageddon…

I found myself in solitude.
I saw demons and blood.
I saw a face, deaf, dumb, and blind.
I saw history, dotted with love.
I saw the present, driven by incomprehension.
I saw the future, mesmerised by itself.
