Colours of the Saints

Colours of the Saints

written by: Isaiah Ayedun

In hues of saints, where shadows play
Our chosen path, a pact we’ve made
Few found favor, assets in the fold
Many more, liabilities to behold

Their gifts, a mystery, unclear
Leaving bitter taste, hard to persevere
Have fingers toiled, the earth to sow?
All for a stipend, in Christ’s name, we’re told

Agony persists, a weight we bear
In this phenomenal, temporal age we share
A one-sided bargain, we saw the signs
Black-and-white stripes, like a zebra’s disguise

Though the past may fade, memories remain
Echoes in the arteries, a lingering pain
I sigh and feel pain
