Come Back To Me
written by: Aurora Kastanias
I search for you everywhere, expect
To find you in my bed when I awake, opening
Eyes to the glowing brightness of the day,
Stretching my arms, body contortions, yawning
Under the warmth of enveloping white sheets
Scented by the ebbs and flows of the night,
As through my window ajar gentle
Breeze with promises wafts in, to caress my skin.
I expect, you to embrace me as I glide
My feet into my flip-flops, my body into my rose
Silk dressing gown, to see your reflection
In my mirror as I splash, cold water on my face,
You used to love that intimate moment
Just you and I standing in front of the lavabo
Gazing deep into my pupils, fantasising, navigating
The universe they hide, observing the curls
Dropping before my eyes. You don’t
Take showers with me anymore, though we used to
Delight in contemplating the age of droplets
Mesmerised by the fathomlessness of what are
Four point five billion years of existence,
Indulge in liquid gems of pleasure gushing
Upon us so lavishly as to imbue us
With an all-pervading elysian sense of gratitude.
I expect to find you on my lips, as I sip
My first drop of black coffee, scorching bittersweetness,
Lighting my cigarette as I unfold the crisp
Crackling, freshly printed, ink-scented newspaper,
Though I don’t expect to find you whilst I read
Articles replacing you with a frown, but after that
I miss your presence as I begin to write,
In silence, your absence is deafening.
Another day goes by, and as I return to my bed
To the warmth of enveloping white sheets, the scents
Of the previous night fading away I reminisce
About you, how you lit my face, set me on fire,
I’ll be waiting always, for you to come back to me,
After all, you can’t have gone very far, for you are
My lodestar, you belong to me, you are
My smile and my lips, our tryst, your sole abode.
