Fireflies

the fireflies light up,
a moment later they’re
gone
i have followed them
through caves, through
spidersweb
and i never really
believed them, although
i pretended i did
and i never really
desired them, although
part of me did
the fireflies take flight,
and i watch them in the
mirror
and I love that they
were here and then they were
gone
A retired teacher and lecturer from England now living in Malta. Recently self- published a book of poems, fiction and essays, Digging for Water. The author of three novels set in Indonesia: Jakarta Shadows, Kuta Bubbles, and Lombok Flames. Interests include art, film noir, the I Ching, philosophy, walking.
