i’ll rot in this orchard,
under the fragrant trees.
i’ll melt into the soil,
shed my skin,

my heart will bleed
and from that seed will grow
one, tall, beautiful tree.

and you’ll sit beneath it,
(the only time you’ll ever touch me)
inhaling the aroma, feeling the taste

i’ll drop my leaves on you,
like gentle, earthly kisses;

one on your head,
one on your face,
one on your hands,
one on your waist.

and you’ll swipe them away,
like annoying, little flies.
you’ll drop my leaves on my roots,
and wait for the time to go by.

and i’ll rot in this orchard,
with the notion in my mind,
that i was always yours
but you were never
mine.
