Half-Sunk in the Mire

Half-Sunk in the Mire

written by: William Wright, Jr.

Low
In the last of a bottle,
Drenched and half-sunk
Turmoil floats free
From a satisfied liar

His soaked-through forefathers
Lived and laughed in that tomb
Facedown in the remedy,
Lukewarm and shallow

He will climb from that wet grave
On a pale ray of light
And dissolve in another
By the gathering dusk

His mausoleum won’t shatter
Until the outer world quakes,
When his hearth and home
Weigh him down in their ruin
