Haram

Haram

written by: Nancy E. Campos

I watch my people, a country in despair,
This burden; too heavy for my people to bear.
In hopelessness, mothers watch their children in hunger cry.
How can you sit and watch your people die?

I speak to the ones that sit in power, in place of god dictating crimes.
While you pick who from this virus lives or dies
The vale marked Protocol COV001 in those cold hands you hold
Life-saving serum, if you would just allow it through our veins to flow.

Greed, as you gather riches, your money festers, as it gathers flies.
Killings of your people, the price you pay to see your riches multiply.
A rule so corrupted with the sour stench of pride in the pain you cause.
Of your evil doings, one day to him, you’ll answer when your name is called.

Those of you who call yourself messengers of God
The kidnapping, raping, and killing of women in the Holy Book is called Haram.
For you, corrupt keepers of oppression, defenders of your broken law
Your code of conduct needs to be reformed; in truth, all of you are frauds.

That which should unite us now tears us apart
It’s called religion a cancer of the heart.
Hate dictates that your god is better than mine.
Have you forgotten that the blind can’t lead the blind?

Children are dying with not enough to eat.
While you wear someone’s salary on your feet.
How is it that you can ignore their cries,
When all they ask for is dignity with tears in their eyes
