Her Voice, a poem by Fiona Langeveld at Spillwords.com

Her Voice

Her Voice

written by: Fiona Langeveld

People came from miles away
From all across the land
Just to hear her singing voice
At the theatre, oh-so-grand

The floorboards creak so slightly
As she walked onto the stage
It only took one note from her
To have the audience engaged

Her voice was like no other
It floated and it soared
Stunned silence when she’d finished
Then a loud raucous applause

Then one fatal night
They say a candle fell backstage
The flames took hold so quickly
She sadly could not be saved

Many years have passed since then
The theatre rebuilt and in full swing
Music can be heard every night
From the walls within

It’s in the small hours of the night
After everyone’s gone home
A figure walks out onto the stage
And stands there all alone

Her voice is like no other
It floats and it soars
The floorboards creak so slightly
Just as they did before
