Late Summer Song
written by: Duane L Herrmann
Cicadas sing
from all sides
surrounding,
presence aware
despite
short brief lives,
late summer song
SO loud
we cannot but
hear;
birds not competing
simply cicadas.
Human wonders:
Do cicadas know
we can hear?
Do they care?
Singing not for us
but their own creation.
