Our Tower of Love

Our Tower of Love

written by: Abagail Summers

The wind whistles in my ear,
a sad song we sing together
under the moonlight.

Our love is kept in a box
for eternity
shining within for
no one to see.

As the river flows by
I see two faces,
melting into one,
streaming along the years.

Organic soil,
new growth
from an old narrative,
spreading beyond the mountains
and toppling overseas.

If only our hearts could beat once more,
drowning out the noise,
clearing space for something bigger than ourselves,

onto a road that leads us forward,
year after year,
grasping for minutes as they tick away.

Forgotten,
painted over,
life refurbished,
dissolved memories.

Relying on the world to teach us,
tell us stories of our past,
history separated by time and space
and retold to suit the present.

Our tower of love,
though still standing,
covered by trees, plants, and lies,
waiting, waiting, to wake up.
