Perspective

“I live here in a cage,
In dirt and sorrow,
No regards of my age,
My life here is narrow,”

“Just a few mistakes,
And I was condemned,
To a lifetime of despair,
With none at all friends,”

“All look at me weird,
Like I’ve done some big crime,
They flinch away in fear,
That I might end their time,”

“I believe it is unfair,
These grey walls and bars,
Were my faults so rare?
That I blew up some cars,”

“What a miserable tale,”
“What a sad story,”
“What a painful wail,”
He doesn’t deserve a sorry,

“All he did” was murder,
Set fire to innocent lives,
“All he did” was devour,
Souls, hearts and minds,

People who had dreams,
People who had hopes,
Who started to close up seams,
Who started to climb up ropes,

People who blazed the darkness,
People who found a new spark,
People destined for greatness,
People who pounced out the dark,

A desire lost in the cosmos,
They stumbled upon it again,
They started to find meaning,
And they found a home in their den,

And what cruelty and brutality,
What horror and ruthlessness,
To slit their throats and erase their lives,
Devouring their kinder hope of paradise,

To end the heart of a single life,
Is to end a soul’s entire world,
Their family who loved beyond a knife,
Their friends who loved their soul whole,

Their part of joy and hope,
No one will ever find again,
No one else will indulge the scope,
Never now and never then,

The bars of his cage,
Regret—they can not mime,
Those heartless enough to wage,
Mercy, equate in his crime,

An entire universe,
Fades out of existence,
Just because you killed,
For the pleasure and the thrill.
