Read My Lips

Read My Lips

written by: Glo Curl

I wouldn’t want to read a list
Of every sound or word I’ve missed
From age of nine to present day;
No doubt I’d wring my hands and say
‘However did I get the gist?’

A hopeless conversationist
It never mattered when we kissed
You could have gone another way
But didn’t want to

What if…? demands the fantasist
In me. Should time gateways exist
For me to travel back, and stay
Those thieving childhood ills, delay
My muffled world, but trade away all this
I wouldn’t want to

NOTE FROM THE AUTHOR:

I started to lose my hearing around the age of 9 or 10, due to having had measles, mumps and chicken pox in the space of 18 months. No vaccinations in those days. My life could have taken a different path had I not struggled in business meetings and general communication (no assistance in those days) but would I want to swap that path for what I have now? No way. This poem in Rondeau form is a reflection of that conviction and a tribute to my soul mate.
