Silence

Silence

written by: Phyllis Souza

Without warning, the busy city suddenly falls into a choking silence. The air, thick and heavy, remains eerily still.

Marooned in an empty void, she feels abandoned in the aftermath. With each ragged breath, the silence grows deeper.

Shadows creep around her through the stillness of the trees, heightening her sense of loneliness. With every step she takes, the feeling of threatening solitude intensifies, making her feel even more isolated.

Her heart pounds, each beat echoing in her ears as cold sweat beads form on her skin. Dread coils up her spine, causing her hands to tremble with fear.

The streets are dirty, empty of cars, marked with burnt skid marks—remnants of frantic fleeing.

No sounds, no cars, no wind.

Her name is Eve. Once, she ate from the tree of life; now, as always, loneliness and regret seep into her.

There is no ending!
