Spotlight On Writers
Heidi MacCulloch
- Where do you originate from?
I originate from Maple Valley, Washington. A beautiful, rural town about 1 hour south of Seattle, Washington.
- What do you cherish most about the place you call home?
What I cherish most about my home town is the memories I created there. The way the wind felt on my face, riding my bike during the dusk light in July. The way my Mom felt. The way I perceived the World. The child in me still lives there in the longing memories. I live thousands of miles away now but, when I drive through Maple Valley the memories touch me all throughout the town.
- What ignites your creativity?
What ignites my creativity is an obsession to be “there.” Living these feelings out loud. Expressing inner callings that I don’t entirely know or understand. Sitting with my pen and paper letting myself just go. Knowing that there is art inside us all, that it is a piece we can all connect with/on.
- Do you have a favorite word and could you incorporate it into a poetic phrase?
My favorite word is Eternity.
Looking out on the expanse
Of eternity
I see the depths
Of everything unknown
No end
No beginning
Just eternity
- What is your pet peeve?
My pet peeve is bigotry and sexism. Also, my inability to simplify when I write, I always use too many filler words.
- How would you describe the essence of Heidi MacCulloch?
The essence of me is similar to a Witch’s brew. I am a little bit of many things. Feminine and light. Masculine and aggressive. Humorous and dark. I feel a deep connection to Nature and the Moon. I am kind but, untrusting. I write from places usually deep and dark, however as they surface they tend to turn light. I am a feminist to my core. Women are incredible. Women carry the heaviest weight and still show up to be light for others.
