Still Standing Tall
written by: Vidya Venkataramanan
The windows to my soul,
Lay bare,
The blazing sun,
Reflecting shadows
On already weather beaten doors,
Wearing treetops
Like hats that don’t fit,
A monument of
A life well lived,
Been there,
Seen that,
Kind of thing!
But that I still stand,
With the sun in my face,
And blue skies above me,
Deserted,
Yet not alone,
For many a monument,
Stands alone.
Time has withered
The face off,
But strong foundations,
Hold battered bricks
Together,
Held together
by faith
And hope,
For the sun still shone,
And the treetops
Gently
Canopied,
A life
That,
though thought
To be made of brick
And stone,
Stood testimony
To the ravages!
And still stood tall
Wearing a foolish
Treetop hat,
And a somewhat
Dignified smile!
