The Poison Within

The lies he tells himself, afraid to look in the mirror,
Poison of hate listening from behind closed doors,
Others to blame, yet he can’t hold anyone accountable,
For the misdeeds are his and his alone.
The truth might stare him in the eyes, but fear keeps his heart cold,
Accepting responsibility is harder, so he shouts at others—it’s easier this way,
To point fingers, shirk wrongdoings, and avoid the sky,
While the mirror cracks from his own lies.
No light may enter from the cracks created by hate and resentment,
Solitude wraps him—forever alone, yet unable to accept his fate,
Blaming others for actions he can’t disown, there is no remorse,
From the burden of hate, his spirit might die.
All the lies he has told himself, never looking in the mirror,
Festering—the seed of suspicion growing into a venomous tree,
Tongue frozen, truth lingers unspoken—his heart is dead,
Seeking a killer hidden in the shadows, he murdered himself.
