Valentines Loved and Lost

Valentines Loved and Lost

written by: Jackie Shaffer

February, to many people, the month of love
Sightings of lovers in tight embrace
Lips touching, chocolates being shared
Eyes in love emblazed

Forgotten are those who have loved and lost
No tight embrace
No lips touching
No chocolates shared
No smoldering eyes seen

Instead, sadness of heart
Love once was, but now has part
No investment in chocolates nor candlelight
Alone, feelings of hurt enlight
Perception of self, regrets ensue

24 hours later, just another day in the year
Valentine’s Day over, lovers moving apart
Just another day in life for all to start

Goodbye Valentine’s Day
Lovers to embrace you again next year
Others, crying of eyes, past loves, forgotten few
No tight embrace
No lips touching
No chocolates shared
Perception of self, regrets ensue

Starting again
Valentine’s truths
