Spotlight On Writers
Dick Noble
@rbbishopwriter
- Where, do you hail from?
- What is the greatest thing about the place you call home?
As realtors often say, location, location, location. A two-hour drive west puts me in the Rocky Mountains, and two hours east I’m in the badlands among the coulees and hoo-doos. The Calgary Stampede may be the world’s best party.
- What turns you on creatively?
I’m a grinder. My writing practice is simple. I sit down at my desk to write five days a week and eventually inspiration shows up to join the party. I’m an un-repentant pantster and this style of writing has served me well for the flash fiction and drabble I usually write.
- What is your favorite word, and can you use it in a poetic sentence?
The English language is too rich for one favorite word. If I picked a word, it would change by the time I finished the sentence I used it in. However, anyone who reads my first drafts may conclude my favorite words are very and that.
- What is your pet peeve?
As I’ve aged, I’ve become more tolerant of peoples’ habits often recognizing past personal behaviors. The one thing I cannot tolerate is bullying in any form and am obligated to take action when I encounter it.
- What defines Dick Noble?
Change. A writing practice changes over time. In the 1990s I wrote non-fiction articles of a variety of subjects for various magazines. Later, I drifted into content writing but for the last ten years, I’ve focused on fiction in the crime and speculative fiction genres. Although most of my stories are under one thousand words, my latest projects are longer short stories and a novella.
