Poem On His Birthday
written by: David Dumouriez
Twenty-two years sighs the source
of all tears, but what of the man?
What of the boys and girls we once were?
One eye that firmly looks ahead;
one set more fondly on the past.
The pull of sheltered sentiment more strong
than a commitment to an open world?
To lead and to achieve, or to be led?
To follow a presented path, like an
eternal child? Choices left to others
of a stronger hue (or those mistaken
to be such!). Or extend a hand and
grasp the risk? Brave the heat or ice.
Hold or drop. Be willing to accept the scars.
