Last Conversation with My Daughter

written by: Mayumi Yamamoto

“What is the greatest
benevolence
worthy of a ticket to heaven
in my life?”

I ask myself
at the last moment
of my life,
then you reply
“You had Tenten,”
at my bedside.

Now, I bid you farewell.

“You had Tenten.”
I hear you repeat, and whisper into my ear,
“You’ll meet her very soon.”
You assure.
“She enjoyed her long life
filled with love and freedom.”

I hope she
agrees with you.

Once, I had Tenten.
And soon, I’ll have her again.
This time, I’ll never
let her go alone.
