Lyrical Frolics

She stayed where there was love
And left when there was none,
She refused to believe
That love was rare, no sooner arriving than gone,
Acquiring endless husbands and lovers,
An endless supply, each one she decided was wrong,
She arrived when there was money
And left when there was none.

But time is a painful lesson,
Creeping in from widening shadows,
Wrinkles for one
Are heartless reminders, greying hair another of several blows.
Love is the burden of the young
The unrealised hope of the old,
Adultery a silly bit of fun
When what was once purchased easily is less easily sold.
