Blue Without a Name

Blue Without a Name

written by: Kathryn MacDonald

Rain approaches – the sky
that particular shade of blue,
blue without a name.

Your skin feels its moist coming,
a quenching wall moving toward you.

Wind gusts from the south, hums
through sailboat rigging, creates
a percussion of halyards rapping masts.

Clouds release a patter on canvas,
as rain once tapped a tin roof
above a double bed flooding
memory before the hollow bone
of longing adds a blue beat
to the rain’s blue song.
