The Same Except
written by: Insha Naqvi
Late at night
long past midnight
or an hour
the world calls holy
Forty years—
or maybe less
(does it matter
what does it matter—
time is only a trick of the mind afterall)
…since I was here.
It feels the same
(no—
it doesn’t
it will never—
be the same)
Everything is the same
(except for me,
tired,
weary
and—
maybe,
just maybe—
someone else entirely)
Should I have come back—
(or never left
at all)
(And if I’d stayed…
would anything be different?
Or would I still be here—
this same hour,
wondering the same thing?)
