Iqbal’s Longing
written by: Sabahat Fida
I glance at the lines etched deep in my palms
Some say they conceal the arc of tomorrow
But the legends have it to be inscribed in the arches of foreheads
Or so my grandmother proclaims with certainty.
But I reckon no knotted thread for the turbulence of my life
Is this karma—the play of cause & effect?
Or the butterfly’s wings,
That stir up the wilderness of my storm.
But I recall no scars marked on my conscience,
No harm carried by me,
Though chaos circles,
Will Iqbal’s longing reveal
Why God should acquaint us
With fierce tempest?
Why did he wish so fervently?
They argue free will and determinism
Or is it the sparring of two?
Under the Arsh of The Just and The Wise.
