Bean, a poem by Angela Grout at Spillwords.com

Bean

Bean

written by: Angela Grout

There wasn’t a lump.
It wasn’t even a bump.
It was hot and tight so I complained.
Maybe I should have kept it quiet.

If I never got it checked would it not exist?
She called it a bean, a shadow, until another test.
Now I have a vineyard trying to kill me.
I won’t let it.

I shall live with this cross.
I shall redefine my journey.
I shall leave this world my spirit.
My joy, my love, and my peace.

Cancer will not define me.
I shall redefine it.
I am Bean.
Becoming Extraordinarily Appreciative Now.

I appreciate my life.
Every opportunity and challenge.
It’s shaped me to be me.
Planting only good beans.
