shatter the darkness

you are not better
than those who you strip
humanity from,
and i don’t understand
how hearts cannot ache for all those
who are wounded;
a cycle of pain can be broken
but a person once shattered cannot be
left without scars—
how can anyone be so cold hearted
as to hurt children
purposefully?
even if the media isn’t completely honest
why are these people in cages?
people don’t like to see animals in kennels
so why are they silent to the suffering of others?
blowing out someone else’s candles
will never make yours shine brighter
light like joy must come from within,
and those who desperately fight for the light
without having any are rather sad individuals;
but at least they are getting proper meals and adequate rest
the state of the world saddens me—
i know there has always been evil in this world,
but does that mean we condone it?
no, we must fight, we must stop the wickedness
that we can or else we are no better than those
wounding others.
