I’d Never Forget You

i’d never forget you

you said i never told you,
i did;
but i hate repeating myself—

i am a woman of few words
use them well

don’t have time to waste on frivolous conversations
that don’t do anything further than
flatter egos
i despise small talk
just give me something juicy to bite into
a shared experience or a story so deep i can get lost
into the fabric of something deeper or heavier than me—

because i know
i told you this story before
had a miscarriage

it is hard enough it happened without telling the same people twice

maybe you just weren’t listening
a lot of people talk over or around me
ignore me or forget what i’ve said,

and i would like to say it doesn’t hurt me;
but it does

i would never forget you.
