For Dear Life
written by: Alan David Gould
Like dreams
Vestiges of unreachable remembrances
twirling opaquely in spirit glass
The shadow of something unknowable
in a gleam of insufficient light
My life
Half-remembered thoughts of love and sorrow
Laying in a subterranean corridor
Unseeing the sight, unhearing the sound
Unremembering the essence of something once found
I walk and sing, eat, drink, and laugh
Never having done any of these things
Dreaming my life as it streams by
on oxidized film
Never knowing if its children are mine
though I hold on to them for dear life.
