A Bountiful Harvest

A Bountiful Harvest

written by: James Gabriel

walk the rows
of the field
snap an ear of
corn as the day
dawns

pray to the dust
pray to the hard
earth which yields
no crop this season

go to the church
gripping the back of
the pews old and
hard knuckles
white

pray to the bank
pray to the man behind
the desk
eyes hidden behind
wire-rimmed glasses

weathered hands clasped
as you kneel and pray
for a bountiful
harvest
